We do the same at BOPDHB but as a matter on interest if the patient is in a chair and looks difficult to move 3 staff can slide the chair backwards to the floor with someone supporting the patients head and then pull the chair away from the patient while supporting the patients shoulders and commence CPR kind regards Angela.

    Hello,
We use fitted sheets on most beds and flat sheets on the beds which are using an air mattress,
We use the flat sheet only and 3 slide sheets to assist when turning a patient as recommended in the 2012 Moving and handling people: The New Zealand Guidelines.
    Kind regards,
    Angela

Each area has a Capex ie.$10,000 and the CNM’s are able to purchase their equipment needs. If the total purchase order is over Capex then it will be an Organisational cost. In this case present your plan to the nurse Leaders, hope this helps, kind regards, Angela

    Hi Joanne,
We at the BOPDHB had the same problem when a mother collapsed during the birth in a birthing pool and the staff member was injured. We had the room assessed for the ceiling track but unfortunately the walls were not strong enough for this action. So we removed the front plinth of the pool for the hoist to fit underneath and bought a mobile hoist and 3 mesh slings of 3 sizes ready to go in an emergency. We trained all the staff how to use the equipment.
    Thanks,
    Angela

My recommendation would be to use the pat slide and 2 slide sheets but I suppose you have already tried this Mary?

    Hi Julie,
We had the same problem so we developed our own label for the BOPDHB as we were losing $1000 dollars in lost slings at Taylors Linen Services Hamilton. Our label clearly states the ward area and the name of the hospital and the other legislative requirements. No slings have gone missing since,
    Thanks,
    Angela

    Hi Julie,
The BOPDHB does not have a policy for fitness to work. But we do have our own gym on site called SWEAT and it is reasonable to attend. They encourage lunchtime sessions too for staff as there is a good timetable to follow. We also have free health checks for all staff and EAP services. But I think it is a good idea but can see a lot of opposition too,
    Thanks,
    Angela
