Do you need to prone them? If so the hovermatt is wonderful for this. I would recommend getting Fletcher Suckling from Active Health Care to show you how.

We use Allied Laundry in Palmerston North, however we are looking at getting Arjo to launder our slings as they seem to go missing.

Placing someone in the prone position with a hovermatt is a good techqniue for surgeons to know. You could get Fletcher suckling from Active health care to help out.

3.Yes, we have patient handling equipment and a policy and induction training however not enough update training.
    4. I would like to hear if their is an idea to make patient handling training compulsory or a clear guideline for DHB’s to follow.

The contract with Enable states “When equipment has been supplied we must ensure the equipment is set up correctly and safely for the person to use, explain to the person and/or their family, whanau or support person, how to use the equipment. Explain to the person, how to maintain the equipment and who to contact for repairs” Section 8.2.4 of MoH EMS Equipment Manual.

I have developed a one page elearning for the Drs, however I doubt they do it. I did run a session with the anaesthetists at their monthly in-service. We are reviewing our training currently and I will be pushing for them to be included. Kate Edmond ccdhb

I heard of a nurse using the wrong sling so I created a poster to go on all hoists that require the clip on slings. I will send you the poster. The ACC Moving and Handling People Guidelines have step by step procedures which you could copy. they also have videos, not sure if there is one on sling selection though. Kate Edmond
