Hi Julie
I’m not aware of any requirement for the SWL of a Lifting Pole to be a percentage of a patients total weight (although logically this seems to make sense). However the IEC 60601-2-52 Standard (Part 2-52: Particular requirements for the basic safety and essential performance of medical beds) does state:
“The SAFE WORKING LOAD of the LIFTING POLE (included PATIENT handle) shall be at least 750 N”
In simple terms 750N equates to 75kg. Hence to meet the IEC 60601-2-52 standard Lifting Poles should have a SWL of at least 75kg and should be labelled as such.
